Equal Opportunities?

The other day I was applying for internship after internship, when something caught my attention. On one application, it said that in order to monitor equal opportunities for all positions, that I must enter my ethnicity into my application. But surely this process in itself differentiates candidates according to their ethnicity? If everybody really had equal opportunities, then surely ethnicity shouldn’t be an issue, and shouldn’t be necessary in an application with claims to ‘equal opportunities’. Interviews and positions alike should be allocated according to experience and skill for the job without ethnicity even coming into the picture, right? Maybe I’m missing something here, but it seems as though this process contradicts completely what it sets out to do in the first place.

As always, I would love to know your thoughts on the matter…

A Very Busy 6 Weeks!

This weekend has been most relaxing one in a while! The past 6 weeks have been very busy indeed, and I thought with this being the first post in a while due to this hectic, yet exciting term, I though that I would update you all with what I’ve been up to!

Firstly, being part of the Dance Society at university, means I have been very busy with the annual show, competition and frequent socials.

After months of weekly practice and dedication from the teachers and other dance members alike, it was time for the show. Here are a few pictures; dressed for ballet, the opening, and an on-stage shot:

The first social of the term was a ‘Tight and Bright’ social, where we were supporting the yearly Exec Election campaigns:

The competition sees universities from all over the country attend, and this year year lasted 2 days, consisting of 2 days of dancing, performances by dancers in the industry and workshops, as well as a social and awards ceremony both nights:

The Burlesque charity social was next. My two friends, Charlotte and Kat, put on a charity night to raise money for the breast cancer campaign. The night was a Burlesque theme, so was a wonderful chance to get dressed up while raising money for an amazing cause:

Finally, to finish off the term, I had 3 deadlines in for the last Friday of term, and I was working on these alongside all of the other ongoing events throughout the term. I haven’t got any photographs of me working on these so you are going to have to use your imaginations to pictures piles of papers and books that I was working from, which is always a very stressful time of term. But, now all of that is over, I am at home over Easter. I enjoyed a very relaxing weekend at home with family and friends, among lots of lay-ins and many cups of tea. Finally time to relax and catch up!

Rihanna for River Island!

Rihanna’s collection for River Island is being launched tomorrow, Tuesday 5th March, and I’ve already got my eye on some favourites! Vogue’s cover girl is releasing her very own Spring/Summer collection for the brand. So far we are seeing bright yellows and bold prints, among the darker and more neutral shades. With some limited edition pieces among the range too, I for one can’t wait to get my hands on some of the key pieces.

What’s your verdict on the range, I’d love to hear if you are as excited as I am?

Sparkles, Cocktails and Red Leather Shorts!

photo (11)image (2)red leather shorts 2So, last night’s night out consisted partly of sparkles, cocktails, and a new pair of shorts, and I just felt the need to share them with you! Firstly, the nail polish was bought yesterday, and as soon as I saw it I knew that I had to have it. I have always had a love for glitter nail polishes, but I loved that this had lots of different coloured grains of glitter, and after a few coats gave a good coverage compared to other glitters I have previously used. I wore it for the first time last night, and it set my outfit off perfectly. It is by Barry M, and is called 345 Amethyst Glitter for anybody that has fell in love with it as much as I have, and now feel the need to purchase some of their own. Secondly, I am going to introduce you to the ‘frozen strawberry and lime daiquiri’ that I was consuming. It like the slush puppy for grown ups and it tasted just as yummy as it looks! Lastly, I thought I would also share the outfit that I wore last night with you! This pictures is from a group photograph, so excuse the cropping, but these mock leather short are also a new purchase that I love, and are from Forever 21. I loved wearing them out for the first time and can’t wait to get more wear out of them.

What things are your night out consisted of? I would, as always, love to know!

Smile in the Morning!

So as you may have noticed, there have been limited posts recently! I have such a busy couple of weeks and I feel that there is barely time to sleep let alone blog. Today, I had my first lay-in since I can remember (it was greatly needed I’ll tell you that), and I woke up in such a good mood! I will be sure to update you on some of the events filling up my life recently in subsequent posts, but for now I am going to share with you a little something that made me smile a bit more this morning! I recently purchased Quaker Oats in ready portioned sachets (which makes breakfast a lot quicker and simpler to prepare in the morning) and on the front of each one is says ‘good morning!‘ Now, you may think that it is pretty sad that this makes my morning happier, but these little things really do cheer me up and I think that it’s such a cute idea! I have also been introduced to the history of Quakers in the 17th century in recent seminars and that also made me smile realising that I had never actually realised what the name is after- another obscure thing that made me smile this morning!

What little things made you smile this morning?! I’d love to hear from you.

Thoughts on Valentine’s Day!

Firstly, where to begin on this topic is a difficult question. I wouldn’t say that I hate valentines day, but there are many highly irritating factors about it that get to me somewhat… and no I’m not single. I have been asked by what feels like 100 different people what I am doing to celebrate and whether I’m sending a card, present or love felt message to my boyfriend on this ‘special’ Thursday of the year. The truth is that today I sent no gifts and am performing in a dance show tonight, rather that going out for a romantic meal or covering all of my furniture in rose petals. Some may call me cynical for not celebrating this day to its full potential, but does this really make me an unloving person? Don’t get me wrong, what girl doesn’t love being spoilt by a massive box of chocolate’s or millions of roses from their boyfriend, but why does it have to be on that particular day? In fact, I would say that I agree with everything about valentines day, apart from the day itself. I often share how I feel (maybe a bit too much) with my boyfriend and appreciate all the time we spend together, I just don’t understand why I am supposed to express it even more on this day just because society tells me I should. I guess I feel that, those random texts and events that happen to make you smile in a relationship mean a lot more when they are done in a moment of spontaneity rather than forced.

I understand that everybody may not agree with me on this, so if you are celebrating tonight I wish for you have a lovely evening, and if not have a lovely evening too! What are your thoughts on valentines day?!

Bright Colours Among the Rain.

After the BAFTA and Grammy awards, I think it’s safe to say that we have seen our fair share of dresses in a battle for best dressed! But the thing that stood out to me the most (while I am sitting in a house immersed in rain) is the bright colours expressed by some. The likes of Rihanna and Marion Cotillard, showed off some bright, dazzling colours, and they instantly added some colour to the grey colour that surrounds the streets at the moment! They gave me a real buzz of excitement for spring and summer, which isn’t too far around the corner. I want to wear summer colours now!The 55th Annual GRAMMY Awards - Red Carpet Marion Cotillard

What have been your fav dresses of the 2013 awards so far, and what stood out to you?!
